Hanna Galtat is a Helsinki-based artist who works between Finland and France. Trained as a visual artist, designer, and art and architecture historian, her work reflects curiosity for interdisciplinary exploration. Galtat’s practice encompasses sculpture, installations, printmaking and textiles. Her works have been presented in exhibitions in Finland and France.
Recurring themes in Galtat’s work are perception, memory, and meaning in relation to time, place, and matter. She seeks her inspiration in arts, cultures, history, multisensoriality and site-specificity. Through her art, she observes the diversity of life and subjects around which we can experience togetherness.
Galtat often works with recycled materials, interpreting the concept of material memory. Her works include among others the Significant Symbols (2020–2021) bronze sculptures, three-dimensional re-writings of well-known symbols. Her site-specific glass work Point of View (1997) is installed in an Alvar Aalto building in Helsinki. Her designs Juhannus and Kaamos for the Finnish company Lapuan Kankurit depict the cycle of natural light.
